Blake Lively Apologizes To Kate Middleton For ‘Silly Post’ Following Cancer Announcement

The image in question was posted by Prince William and his wife, Kate Middleton, on their joint social media accounts on March 10. Following concerns about the extent of its editing, multiple photo agencies removed the photo. The next day, Middleton issued an apology, stating, “Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing.”

This photo controversy unfolded almost two months after Middleton retreated from the public eye for a scheduled surgery and recovery. When Prince William abruptly canceled his appearance at the memorial service for his godfather, King Constantine of Greece, speculation about Middleton’s recovery began to intensify.

The global interest in the family photo reached its peak with headlines, jokes, and speculations. Personalities like Kim Kardashian and Stephen Colbert joined the conversation with their own comments and jests. Blake Lively also chimed in by posting a manipulated photo of her head superimposed on another woman’s body, captioning it, “I’m so excited to share this new photo I just took today … Now you know why I’ve been MIA.” This image was intended to promote Lively’s beverage lines and appeared to be composed of various photos, including a large thumb, sections of hair, and a can of one of Lively’s drinks.

While Lively did not explicitly name the princess, her intentions in the post seemed apparent. However, in light of Middleton’s recent announcement regarding her cancer diagnosis, the tone and context of such banter have shifted dramatically. Lively appeared to recognize this change, as she posted an Instagram story on Friday that started with, “I’m sure no one cares today, but I feel like I have to acknowledge this.”

Expressing her regret, Lively wrote, “I made a silly post around the ‘photoshop fails’ frenzy, and oh man, that post has me mortified today. I’m sorry.” The post in question, dated March 15, has been deleted since.

Concluding her message, Lively extended her love and well wishes to all, without directly mentioning Middleton or any other royal family members.

On a related note, Blake Lively is married to actor Ryan Reynolds. Both Reynolds and actor Rob McElhenney have co-owned the Wrexham Association Football Club in Wrexham, Wales, since 2020. Earlier this month, Prince William visited the team and enjoyed a pub outing with McElhenney, during which he took a shot of whiskey and poured a pint for the pub’s owner. Reynolds himself has had encounters with the royal family, meeting King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla in 2022 during a stadium tour.

In the end, this incident serves as a reminder of the importance of sensitivity and empathy, especially when commenting on personal matters, even inadvertently, in the public domain.
